Jeewan's back for another crack at promotion

IVYBRIDGE captain Gareth Andrews is concerned missing out on promotion last season may haunt his side.

The Bridge were third in the final table, just eight points behind second-placed Bideford.

Then won the same number of games, lost one fewer but were rained off once more and that cost them.

With Chudleigh and Abbotskerswell coming down, Ipplepen and South Devon coming up and Thorverton and Shobrooke Park looking stronger, Ivybridge won’t be short of competition.

“I felt we missed a big opportunity last season to get promoted, this season will be a lot tougher,” said Andrews.

Ivybridge have lost Ramesh Perrara, who hasn’t returned from Sri Lanka.

Jeewan de Silva - 642 runs and 38 wickets last term – is still around and remains the player other sides fear in the division more than any other.

Josh Coker is back playing. The 22 year old first opened the bowling for the 1st XI when he was 16.

“He's also a very handy batter in the middle order,” said Andrews.

Leg-spinning all-rounder Abraham Kopparambil, just 14, will be given a chance with bat and ball.
