Heather Knight with the victorious Ivybridge under-9 teamENGLAND cricketer and Ashes winner Heather Knight was guest of honour at her home-town club for the annual Kwik Kricket tournament.More than 50 boys and girls representing clubs in the Plymouth and West Devon area took part in the competition for U9 teams organised by Plymstock CC
The four winning teams were: Cup – Ivybridge; Plate – Plymstock Piranhas (pictured), Bowl – Plympton and Shield - Plymstock Panthers.
Plymstock’s Paul Birleson said the youngsters had a fun-filled day topped off by meeting Knight, who has played for England since 2010 and appeared in three Tests, 42 one-day internationals and 17 T20 games.
“Having Heather there to sign bats and shirts, answer questions and give out the prizes should inspire a new generation of young cricketers,” said Birleson.
Knight stayed on in the afternoon to skipper her XI against a Plymstock Veterans’ XI in a T20 match.
“Heather’s team were taught a lesson by the senior players and lost by 90 runs,” said Birleson.
