THE Brockman Cup XI take on the Aarron Printers Cup XI at Torquay Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday Monday (2pm) in the annual battle for the Dick Lear Cup.
Lear, who died five years ago, enjoyed a cricket career spanning nearly 50 years as a player then umpire, mainly with Torquay CC, but latterly with Kingskerswell.
He played in both midweek evening cup competitions over the years and was a Brockman Cup winner with Torquay in 1978.
Torquay did the evening cricket double that season as they won the Narracott Cup as well.
The trophy will be presented to the winning captain by Brockman Cup chairman Tim Chapman, a former team-mate of Lear’s at Kingskerswell.
The Brockman Cup team won last year’s match, the inaugural meeting for the cup. The skipper this year is Dick’s son David, who will be extra keen to retain the cup having missed last season’s match.
