Three wickets each for Kidd and Golding
MATT Golding and Matt Kidd bagged three wickets each as Devon dismissed Gloucestershire 2nd XI for 195 in today’s 50-over friendly at Sidmouth

Gloucestershire reached 34 before Devon struck to remove opener Chris Dent, who was caught at mid-on by substitute captain Matt Thompson having a go at Matt Plowman.

Thompson took over the skippership when Pete Bradley dropped out the day before the game due to work commitments.

Lloyd Evans and surviving opener Sam Bracey put on 53 for the second wicket and were looking comfortable when Evans chanced his arm against Harry Booker’s and was run out for 19.

Three more wickets fell for the addition of just 20 runs as Devon turned the screw in the field.

Christian Purchase departed for six to a breathtaking diving catch at mid-on by skipper Matt Thompson – a take which would have graced any Test match ground.

Purchase made a brisk 75 in the corresponding game last season, so Devon were glad to see the back of him early.

Two runs later Gloucestershire were 95 for four after Bray fell into the trap set for him and was caught at deep square leg by James Burke off Harry Booker.

Mike Beard was next to go: bowled by Matt Golding, whose sharply turning leg-spin posed plenty of problems for the Gloucestershire batters.

Cameron Herring held the bottom half of the order together at one end while wickets fell regularly at the other.

Angus Harman departed caught at extra-cover by Luke Bess to give Jack Richardson a deserved wicket.

Matt Kidd – wicketless in his first spell – came back for a second go and took three in a row to put Devon on top.

Uzi Qureshi picked out Thompson at mid-off – regulation this time – Craig Miles lobbed one up to Golding at mid-on and Miles Hamond was lbw having a head-in-the-air waft!

Having been none for 19 off six overs, Kidd finished with three for 33 from 10.

Last man Matt Taylor hung around to make 11 in a stand of 30 for the final wicket with Herring, who was out with eight balls to go for 46, caught and bowled by Golding.

Golding’s figures were three for 37 from 9.4 overs.

Gloucestershire 195 (C L Herring 46, S N Bracey 39; M L Kidd 3-33, M C Golding 3-37).
