NORTH Devon’s Tom Ansell and Exeter’s Ben Green have been drafted into the Devon Lions; side for today’s 50-over friendly against Warwickshire 2nd XI at Kings Heath.Devon started out with a 12-man travelling party, but have lost Matt Thompson, Seb Benton and Matthew Golding from their initial pick.
Ansell has shown some form early in the North Devon order this season while Green has been racking up the runs for Devon U14s
Green whacked 365 runs in five games as the Taunton Festival, including a century against Dorset and 96 in the match against Derbyshire.
Senior player James Burke will skipper the side, which has tangled with Gloucestershire, Somerset and a Devon League XI over the course of the summer.
Lions games serve a number of purposes, not just development ones.
Burke, who started the season dual-registered with Somerset, is currently without a First Class county and a good performance against Warwickshire could put him in the shop window for next summer.
A good winter in South Africa – where Burke is heading for a second successive season – won’t do any harm either.
Plympton’s Josh Mailling is in – he has impressed with bat and a ball for club and the Lions all season.
