Meredith installed at St George

IT’S all change at Clyst St George for the season ahead in the C Division with new captains for the 1st and 2nd XIs – plus a new chairman.

Jonny Meredith, who joined from Exeter last season having previously played for Plymouth, takes over the reigns as 1st XI captain from Steve Bourke, who was the overseas player last season.

Sean Middleton is the new 2nd XI skipper while Dan Takle continues as Sunday captain.

Mike Johnson takes over from Oz Besley as chairman and Takle is assuming secretarial duties.

The Colts will be run by Paul Laverick, Tim Read and Middleton.

Bezley has been in the chair for three years, having replaced Laverick in 2009. He combined chairmanship with captaincy at the start of his tenure.

Laverick, very much part of the fixtures and fittings at the Bohea Field, said his successor deserved a hearty pat on the back.

“He took over as chairman at 24 and was possibly the youngest cricket chairman in Devon,” said Laverick.

“As well as captaining the club, he has seen us through many changes with a maturity well beyond his years.

“The club owes Oz a special thank you. He can now look forward to turning up and playing without the distraction of high office.

“Thank you OZ for all your hard work.”

Nets have already started at the Devon Cricket Centre in Exeter from 8-9pm every Thursday until the end of March. New members welcome -  particularly bowlers bearing in mind the new rules in the Devon League this season.

Colts training will be every Friday throughout the summer term from 6.15. Clyst have teams in the EDYL at under 10, 11 and 13 level.

New members welcome and indoor nets will commence in March at Exeter School. Contact Paul Laverick at pwrp@btinternet.com  for details.
