WILL Wyatt hit the final ball of the match for four to give Barton a dramatic win over Paignton in the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup.
Paignton made 114 for eight in their 20 overs, which didn’t look enough when Barton were 87 for one in reply with eight overs to go.
Stephen Lewis clattered 73 off 51 balls – he hit eight fours and two sixes along the way – and as long as he stayed in a Barton win looked a certainty.
Miserley spells of bowling from Liam Bryan (4-0-16-1) and Mark Smith (4-0-20-1), plus a last over from Dan Wolf costing just one run, got Paignotn back in the game.
And when the returning Mike Pedley snared Lewis and Jamie Hamilton in the same over, the pressure was on Barton at 102 for five with four overs to go and the bowling brake well and truly applied.
Paignton got down to the final over from Smith needing four tie and five to win. A scampered bye got Wyatt on strike with three balls to go and he larruped the last one to the ropes to win the game.
Earlier, Smith had top scored for Pagnton with 36, putting on 47 with Ian Selway and 24 with Simon Edwards as Paignton reached 71 for two after 11 overs.
Edwards (18) was third out on 85 – the second of four scalps for Dave Palmer – and after he went only Tim Ward reached double figures as Barton slowed to 114 for eight.
