NEW: Bovey begin defence with a win

HOLDERS Bovey Tracey opened their defence of the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup with an 18-run win over Babbacombe.

The game was a Sunday lunchtime affair as Babbacombe wanted to avoid a midweek fixture pile up owing to commitments in the Corinthian Cup.

James Fulner slammed 96 for Bovey in a total of 148 for seven. Next best with 19 was Dominic Whitlock.

Skipper Steve Broad made 50 for Babbacombe, who were only 22 for six after six overs and struggled to make up for lost time.

“We were a little complacent in the last 10 overs and almost let them back into the game, but you are going to get that with a young side and they'll learn,” said Bovey captain James Mason.

Bovey will be at home to Abbotskerswell in the next round on May 23.

Meanwhile the delayed game between Dartington & Totnes and Chelston has yet to be rearranged.
