North Devon preserve record at Braunton's expense
WEEK 12 - TABLES

NORTH Devon reached the half way mark of their DIVISION ONE campaign with a perfect record still intact after a third victory of the season, winning by five wickets at bottom of the table Braunton.

Ian Roberts hit 51 as the home side were bowled out for 131.

Luke Ansell (3-22) and Tim Cook (3-20) were the principle wicket takers.

Peter Blyth then hit an unbeaten 44 and Jamie Overton chipped in with 35 as the Instow men sailed home with five wickets and 14 overs to spare.

Daniel Bracher bagged a brace for Braunton who have just four games left in their season to save their top flight status.

Hatherleigh are another side still to sport a perfect 20 points average record.

However, they had their week 12 match at Barnstaple and Pilton washed out by the Saturday night rain that left Raleigh Meadow unfit for play.

That’s the sixth time in eight outings that Hatherleigh have been denied by the weather!” 

For Barum it was a fourth match lost to the elements from nine outings and they remain in what looks now to be a three-way battle to avoid the drop out of the top flight between Braunton, Bideford and Barum.

Newton Tracey and Sandford swapped places after Tracey won by three wickets at Creedy Park.

It was a thrilling contest that went the distance with the win eventually confirmed in the penultimate over.

Ben Clement (74) and George Greed (34) led the home side to 191.

John Whormsley claimed 5-28 for the visitors and then struck 43 in the successful run chase.

Richard Screech was the batsman to get the visitors home though as he hit a splendid 64.

Kieran Vinnicombe was the most successful home bowler with 2-18.

The top two in Division Two both maintained their 100 per cent records.

Halberton were 26 run winners at home to Victoria Park.

Greg Maher struck an unbeaten 109 and the next best was the 20 hit by Tom Sambrook as Halberton closed on 187-8.

Giles Bashford took 4-25 for Victoria Park who were then restricted to 161-9 led there by Ricky Kelly with 36.

Nick Dean sent down his nine overs, taking 1-15 whilst Jeremy Turner claimed 2-40.

Heathcoat are the other second tier outfit to still sport a perfect record after they beat Shebbear by five wickets at Knightshayes.

The visitors were bowled out for 114 with Guy Clatworthy claiming four wickets.

Pete Randerson then hit a half-century to lead Heathcoat to a comfortable victory.

Incorrigibles chalked up a huge 215 run win at Lynton and Lynmouth where they batted first, scored 237-7 and then skittled the home side out inside 13 overs for just 22! Andy Crossman (56) and Will Denford (48) led the Witheridge side to 237-7.

Skipper Nick Bowen claimed 3-27 in eight overs for the hosts who were then hustled out in double quick time! Matt Faulkner’s three was the highest offering with the bat and the last six batsmen in the score book had ducks by their name! Ryan Bowden (3-2) and Aussie Ben Slaviero (3-1) were the main wicket takers.

Holsworthy remain out in front in Division Three after they recorded a fifth win in as many outings, beating visiting Bideford II by 100 runs.

Ryan Walter dished up the match-winning all-round contribution.

Walter (90) and Matt Marks (58) that the latter’s first half century this season, led the hosts to 203-5.

James Greenleaf took 4-41 for Bideford who were then bowled out for 103 with Walter claiming 3-14.

Robert Mitchell also bowled well, taking 4-27 and John Weeks hit an unbeaten half century for Bideford.

Belstone climbed into third place with their third win of the campaign, netting a six wicket success at North Devon II.

Matt Curtner-Smith top scored with 39 and Edward Mann chipped in with 21 as the Instow side closed on 165-7.

Scot Tremaine took 2-39 for Belstone and then helped out in the run chase with 30 whilst Phil Woods top scored with 44 as Belstone, aided by 33 extra’s, sailed home with six wickets to play with.

Gareth Carder bagged a brace of wickets for the home side.

Heathcoat II are the new leaders of Division Four after they claimed a thrilling last over one wicket win at previous leaders Ilfracombe.

Jamie Matthews (57) and Dave Hart (25no) put on 85 for the opening wicket before Hart retired hurt with a foot injury and Hart did return later in the innings to help the team to 167-6.

The visitors got home in the last over with their final pair at the wicket despite a five wicket haul from Nathan Townsend.

Petrockstowe recorded their third win of the season with a five wicket home triumph over Barnstaple and Pilton II.

Brady Saunders top scored with 35 in the Barum all out total of 110.

Lee Cockwill (4-17) and Brendon Hughes (4-19) took the bulk of the wickets for Petrockstowe who were then led to victory by Lee Cockwill (28) and Steve Cox (24).

Bishop Nympton won the Division Five top of the table clash and also became the first team to inflict defeat on Newton Tracey II where they won by a margin of 161 runs.

Toby Lockhead (87) and Sam Giffard (70) combined to help Nympton to an imposing 305-5.

Kieran Soper then top scored with 40 as the hosts were bowled out for 144.

Will Palmer, Tom Keighley and Pete Keighley each bagged a brace of wickets.

Nomansland remain without a win this season, but they made visitors Bratton Fleming fight all the way for their two wicket win at Witheridge in a low scoring affair.

Gary Say top scored for Nomansland with 9 in a meagre total of 63.

Kurtis Parkin claimed 5-12 from five overs for the visitors who edged home with just two wickets remaining.

Les Rendell (4-30) and Ed Strong (3-21) were the home bowlers to enjoy success.

Victoria Park II suffered their seventh weather hit game in nine outings when no play was possible in the home meeting with Hatherleigh.
