North Devon League hard hit by weather
NORTH DEVON LEAGUE - WEEK 18
Tables

WEEK 18 of the Farm and Cottage Holidays North Devon Cricket League was a near total washout with just one of the day’s matches being completed – that the one in Division Five at Cheriton Fitzpaine and only one other, at Heathcoat, actually saw action either side of the tea interval!

In the top flight they manage a dozen overs at Braunton where the home side were 46-1 against Sandford when rain took charge.

They waited until 3.20pm to make a start at Bideford where North Devon faced just 15 balls before play was abandoned for the day with the visitors 8-0. There was not a single ball bowled at Newton Tracey (v Heathcoat) or Filleigh (v Hatherleigh).

Not a ball was bowled in Division Two at Beaford (v Shobrooke Park), Weare Giffard (v Shebbear) or Morebath (v Victoria Park) but they did managed five overs at Witheridge where Barnstaple and Pilton were 20-2 against Incorrigibles when then weather took charge.

They got through to tea at Sandford II where Filleigh were bowled out for 188 with David Boyd scoring 41, Charles Cullen 28 and Jonathan Ley 26. Brian Leach claimed 6-29 for the Creedy Park side but then heavens opened during the tea interval and no further play was possible.

At Halberton the home side were 44-0 after eleven overs when rain took over in their game with Newton Tracey II and there was even less play at North Devon II where Bratton Fleming were the visitors.

Division Four was a washout with no action at Barnstaple and Pilton II (v Petrockstowe), North Molton (v Westleigh) and Victoria Park II (v Kelseymen).

They did however manage a full game in Division Five at Cheriton Fitzpaine where the village club’s groundsman Mike Foan rarely lets a little rain stop him staging a match! Paddy Blake had a fine all-round day for the Cherries despite visitors Bishops Nympton landing a three wicket win. Blake top scored with 22 and Mike Foan hit 17 in the Cherries all out total of 99. Jonathan Symons took 3-5 for the visitors who then got home losing just three wickets, two of which fell to Blake who was also responsible for the other wicket – a fine throw to complete a run-out! John Verney hit an unbeaten 32 for the winners whilst Michael Burrows was unbeaten on 35 when the win was sealed.

They managed half a game at Heathcoat where Bratton Fleming II were bowled out for 67 but only a pair of overs were possible post tea before the weather claimed another match.

The one basement Division game played on Saturday was rain free and it saw Filleigh III secure a seven wicket win over Nomansland. Paddy Treweeke (3-25) and Karl Shaw (2-21) combined to bowl the Witheridge side out for 109. Sebastian Le Barth then hit an unbeaten 70 and Tim Henry chipped in with 20 as Filleigh completed a comfortable win.
