NORTH DEVON LEAGUE – WEEK 23

Latest Tables

THE penultimate weekend of the season saw just four matches played with three of them in the top flight.

Bideford rounded off their season in champion style with a 33-run home win over Braunton. Mike Young (55) and Matt Allin (22) were the principle run providers in a home total of 157-8.

Giles Bashford took 4-40 for the visitors who were then bowled out for 124.

Ian Roberts (25), John Baglow (23) and Dan Crocombe (23) were the main run getters for Braunton whilst it was left to Martin Stewart (3-44), Paul Shepherd (2-24) and James Ford (2-35) to claim wickets for the champions.

North Devon made sure of pipping Hatherleigh to the runners-up berth when they completed their campaign with a 104 run win at Newton Tracey who slipped a place to second bottom as a result of their seventh reversal of the season.

Matt Westaway (80) and Dan Bowser (59) underpinned the Instow men’s offering of 264-7. John Turner, Rob Gear and Kieran Jarrett each bagged a brace of wickets for the home side who were then bowled out for 160.

Only Dan Newby with an unbeaten 38 made much of an impression as Jamie Overton claimed 6-15.

Sandford defeated Heathcoat by seven wickets in their final game of the season to move out of the bottom two.

The one Division Two game saw Beaford complete their season with a seven-wicket win over nine-man Lynton and Lynmouth who were bowled out for 78.

Connor Constable hit 18 and there were 13 extras in the Lynton total as Mark Lake took 2-6 from seven overs, Michael Lemons claimed 2-11 and Andrew James also bagged a brace of wickets.

Ali McMillan then hit 19 and Daniel Lane matched that total – his effort an unbeaten one, as the hosts wrapped up victory long before 4pm.

There was no action in the one Division Three game at Filleigh II, this because scheduled visitors Bude, could not raise a side and notified the hosts of such as late as 12.30pm, much to the disappointment of the hosts!

No play either in both the Division Four matches with waterlogged wickets putting paid to the action at Barnstaple and Pilton, where Belstone were due to visit and at North Devon III where North Molton were the scheduled opposition.
