North Devon League latest
LATEST TABLES
The weather again hit the Stay In Devon North Devon Cricket league on match day nine with more games called off or abandoned than those that managed to play, and finish.
All three of the top flight games scheduled got a start, but just the one finished. That was at Barnstaple and Pilton where Sandford won a low scoring affair. The Creedy Park side batted first and were bowled out for 125 with only Ashley Baker (35) and Shaun Hawkins (33) making inroads with the bat as James Thomas (4-23) and Jack Popham (2-9 in six) combined to do the business for Barum. However, if the home bowling was hard to get away then the Sandford effort was even more difficult to some to terms with as the reply ended on 85! Only Brady Saunders, batting at number five and finishing with an unbeaten 16, and last man Paul Schiller with 11, made any significant contribution as Gary Abdul claimed 6-22 in nine splendid overs. The win means Sandford maintain their 100 per cent record though they stand on 19 points after a point deduction after their inability to fulfil a 2nd XI fixture earlier in the season. North Devon, Hatherleigh and Filleigh all still sport perfect top-flight records with 20 point averages.

They managed just 13 overs at Hatherleigh where the hosts had raced to 60-1 against Bideford when rain ended play whilst at Filleigh they managed 23 overs and visitors North Devon had chalked up 75-3 with Dan Bowser hitting 27 when the rain ended play prematurely.

The cancellation count in the top flight is now almost fifty per cent with no fewer than 11 of the 24 top flight games not played this term so far!

The only game to be played in Division Two saw Victoria Park bag a second win of the campaign and inflict a fifth straight defeat on Lynton and Lynmouth. Matt Faulkner hit an unbeaten 69 and Nick Bown chipped in with 38 as Lynton and Lynmouth closed on 154-4. Mike Cashmore had 2-23 for Park who completed a successful run chase thanks to an unbeaten 48 from Will Anderson and a knock of 36 from Lee Merrick. Bowen completed a decent all-round contribution for his side with 2-34.

There was no action at Incorrigibles where Weare Giffard were the visitors, or at Shebbear where Heathcoat were due to provide opposition.

In Division Three Emmanuel Parmakellis slammed his second century of the league season in Shobrooke Park’s 105 run win at Bideford II. Parmakellis hit 126 and Jonathan James chipped in with 50 in a total of 265 all out. Charlie Webb was the pick of the home bowlers with 3-52. John Weeks (32) and Alan Withecombe (30) led the reply which saw wickets fall at regular intervals, the final one with the score on 160. James Steer took 4-27 for the Mid Devon men.

There was no play in the game at Belstone where Holsworthy were due to visit.

In Division Four two of the three scheduled games were played. Matthew Knapman hit 82 and Tom Stanton 63 as North Devon II closed on 190-5 with the Westleigh wicket takers Reece Woolger (3-28) and Michael Merrick (1-22). Merrick then hit an unbeaten 48 to help lead table topping Westleigh to a five wicket win. Mark Cann struck 47 and Luke Purkiss scored a timely 39. Sam Meadowcroft took 2-32 for the beaten hosts.

They played also at North Molton where Filleigh II were beaten by seven wickets. Baljit Kalsi (44) and Mike Prideaux (19) were the principle scorers for Filleigh in a total of 155. Rob Ayre (3-17), Will Boyles (3-27) and Jack Reed (3-51) shared the wicket taking duties for North Molton who raced home losing just three wickets to climb into a top three berth. Joe Noble hit 64 and Jack Reed saw them over the line with an unbeaten 26.

No play though at Heathcoat where Kelseymen were due to visit.

They played in Division Five at Bishops Nympton and the table toppers nailed another success with a 173 run triumph over Bratton Fleming II. James Campbell (48no), Mike Burrows (41) and Will Palmer (39) combined to see their side to 246-7. Colin Welch claimed 3-55 for Bratton Fleming who were then hustled out in just 23.3 overs for 73. Pat Crane struck 38 of his side’s total! Will Palmer took 5-20 from nine excellent overs and James Campbell completed a fine all-round shift with 3-27. The other wicket takers for the table toppers were Tony Comer and Alex Kennedy.
