Devon's first pre-season game called off

DEVON’S pre-season friendly against Exeter University has been cancelled as the pitch isn’t fit.

The County Ground in Exeter was due to host the 40-over friendly, but it became clear today (Friday) conditions were too wet to prepare a wicket.

Devon had been hoping to look at a number of bowlers bidding for places in the one-day side this season.

Bovey Tracey seamer Ryan Bougourd (left) is back after a year away from Minor Counties cricket and could feature.

Jack Popham, a quick bowler from Barnstaple, has been working with the Gloucester Academy this winter so Devon were keen to see him play.

Promising young spinner Charlie Miles from Sidmouth has been working one-to-one with former Glamorgan and Devon spinner Tony Allin during the winter and Devon had hoped to see him in action too.

Devon will hope for better luck with the weather next Sunday when they are due to face Somerset 2nd XI at Heathcoat CC.
