Asked to bat first on pitch that tricky to get used to and a slow outfield after the rain that has fallen this weekend,
openers Amara Carr and Lydia Harris added 40 for the first wicket with a patient opening stand.
Harris (12) was the first to go caught at backward point off the bowling of Moira Comfort.
Amara Carr was going along smoothly before coming down the track to Lauren Shrubsole to be stumped for 28.
The innings then stalled somewhat as the Somerset spinners put a strangle on their visitors, aided with some outstanding
out cricket, particularly from Sophie Luff and Frances Wilson out in the deep. Wickets tumbled and at 89-6 the prospect of
a below par score loomed. Rosalie Fairbairn was joined by Lottie Miles and the pair slowly got Devon back into the game
with some sensible batting and excellent running. They added 57 for the 7th wicket, the highest partnership of the match
and although both fell before the end they had helped get Devon to 155-8 and three batting points.
Fairbairn made 58 and Miles 20 in what would turn out to be a match winning stand.
Somerset's reply was punctuated with regular wickets with no batswomen passing 20, in fact 37 extras (too many!)
was the top score and only a sprited 7th wicket stand of 35 between Plympton native Jackie Hawker and keeper Beth Howe
maintained any lingering hopes of a home victory. Cait O'Keefe 3-22 and Hazelle Garton 3-15 were the pick of the bowling,
with Rebecca Donohue superb with the new ball once again, despite only getting the one wicket.
The win sees Devon remain on top of Division 2 but no one is getting carried away just yet.
Next up for Devon is Worcestershire at Sidmouth on 15th June.
