Townsend impressed by Rudoph

OTTERY St Mary go to Shaldon on Saturday looking to make it three out of three in the C Division East.

Their opening day win over Filleigh was followed up by a hefty eight-wicket win over Barnstaple and Pilton.

Barnstaple struggled all the way through for runs as Ottery bowlers Jody Clements (3-15) and Matt Reed.

Barnstaple’s best stand was a modest one of 38 between Steve Moore (30) and Sean Cole Jack Thomas was the top scorer with 43.

Ottery went off smartly with Lewis Townsend (47) and Billy Rudolph (44) putting on 81.

Billy Reed (25no) and Rob Crabb (21) saw Ottery the rest of the way.

Said Townsend: “A great result for us set up by some disciplined bowling that made it hard for Barnstaple to score.

“Rob Johns started well and Jody and Matt Reed bowled very tight in the middle overs.

“Our batters finished the job off, Billy Rudolph looks in great form at the moment which is great to see.”
