NORTH Devon’s Jamie Overton was kept busy at the Devon League presentation evening in Exeter as he picked up three awards.
The Instow outfit won the Premier Division last season and in the absence of outgoing captain Mike Hedden the club sent Overton along to collect the silverware.
North Devon also won the Premier club of the year award, which is based on marks given by umpires. Overton collected that cup and a cheque for £100 as well.
Overton’s main reason for being at the ceremony, which followed the competition’s annual awards night, was to receive the Young player of the Year award.
League managers gave the award jointly to Jamie and his twin Craig for their achievements with North Devon, Somerset 2nd XI, Devon and the England U19s last month.
Jamie was due to be on tour with England in Bangladesh with Craig when the awards were handed out, but had to drop out of the squad due to injury. The consolation prize was getting his hands on a cup previously won by future England stars Mark Lathwell and Chris Read.
Filleigh chairman Andrew Collier was presented with the E Division champions’ trophy.
Bideford were named C Division club of the year, which meant a trip to the trophy table for Andy Davies to collect a cup and a cheque for £100.
Plymstock’s Dom Wood and former Plymouth chairman Dennis White were among the award winners at the Devon League annual meeting and presentation night.
Wood – the leading run getter in the Devon League last season – was named the competition’s overall player of the year.
Opener Wood racked up a magnificent 877 runs at an average of 54.81 that included three tons and three 50s last season as Plymstock went on to win the B Division title.
Sadly Wood won’t be playing for Plymstock next season as he has moved to Surrey to live and work.
Long-serving captain Dave Orchard, who was at the event in Exeter to collect the B Division champions trophy, took home the trophy on Wood’s behalf.
White was given the services to cricket award for his work on behalf of Plymouth and the league over many years.
He has been the Premier Division results secretary since 1996, when he took over from Harold Shaw, and was chairman of Plymouth in the late 1990s as well as 1st XI scorer.
Plymouth’s Steve Cummings was presented with the Premier 2nd XI champions trophy.
Lewdown captain Charlie Hughes was a delighted recipient of the C Division trophy while Nigel Piddock picked up the E Division West cup on behalf of Plymouth CS &
