Plympton’s Under 15 girls have progressed to the Regional final of the Lady Taverner’s U15 Club T20 Tournament after a convincing win away at North Parade, home of Bath CC on Sunday 29th June.
The 8 a side competition comprises four Regional groups and for Plympton started back in May with a victory over Bovey Tracey and has been followed by wins over Sidmouth and Parley from Dorset.
After choosing to bat first Plympton suffered the early loss of Olivia Jones caught by Sophie Godman of the bowling of Georgia Wilson for 5. Jones has been a consistent scorer for Plympton in this competition for Plympton but the visitors recovered as a 48 run partnership between Millie Lee and Evie Pitman for the 2ndwicket and a further one of 40 for the 4th wicket when Pitman was joined by skipper Stephanie Hutchins helped Plympton post 134-6 from their allotted 20 overs. Evie Pitman made a fine 39 and was well supported throughout by Millie Lee 21, Imogen Beasley 17 and an unbeaten 20 from Stephanie Hutchins. M Burn was the pick of the Bath bowling with 2-23 from her 4 overs.
Bath made a reasonable reply as they got to 23 without any fuss but the introduction of Stephanie Hutchins’ off spin coupled with the left arm seam of Evie Pitman proved pivotal as Hutchins had fellow skipper Zoe Olsen-Groom smartly caught behind by Immy Beasley and also bowled Georgia Wilson for just a single. Wickets fell thereafter at regular intervals, as all the bowlers contributed, Pitman accounted for fellow opener A Rutter-Eley clean bowling her and thereafter only keeper Sophie Godman made double figures before being bowled by Millie Lee. Sophie Knapp claimed the final wicket as Bath closed on 92-7.
They now await the outcome of the other semi final between Newport CC, Wales and Banbury CC of Oxfordshire. A place in the National Finals awaits on 05thAugust at Leamington CC for the winners of the fur Regional Group.
