NORTH Devon will include Glenn Querl in their starting line-up for the home game against Bradninch tomorrow.Querl, who has been on a short-term deal with Hampshire this season, was suspended from bowling last week due to concerns about his action.
Hampshire have said they will work with the Zimbabwe-born all-rounder to straighten out his action.
Querl is prohibited from bowling in all cricket until the ECB pass his action as legal.
There is nothing to stop him playing as a batsman though, which is what North Devon are doing.
North Devon are in all sorts of trouble at the wrong end of the table and need the sort of lift Querl can give them with the bat.
“Glenn will play as a batter with Tom Ansell going into the twos and Rob Ayre coming back in as well,” said North Devon skipper Matt Dart.
“Three of the next four games are must-win for us, so we need a big performance.”
Although Bradninch are fresh from a win over Cornwood, skipper Tim Piper isn’t taking lowly North Devon lightly.
“I'm looking for and expecting a vastly improved performance in the field this week,” said Piper.
“Too many runs have been gifted this year, through both dropped catches and ground fielding. which makes the game a lot harder than it should be.
“It's an underestimated part of the game and something that we can all contribute towards.
“As a batting team, we are all looking forward to the trip to Instow. I do feel North Devon have underperformed a bit so far considering the team that they have on paper.
“They look like a mid-table team to me. We know they'll be desperate for a result against us, especially at home.”
Team news: Will Squire and Bryn Jones both are away at weddings, Matthew Jarrett unavailable.
Chris Acton comes back in after averaging over 80 for the last few games in the 2nd XI.
Connor Carthew gets a chance after also impressing in the 2s. The last player has yet to be selected.
“My prediction is a high scoring game, but a tight game,” said Piper.
