Premier 2nd XI review: Gribble hasn't lost his touch

MARK Gribble showed that the old magic is still there with a match-winning performance for Bovey Tracey 2nd XI at Plymouth.

James Mason (5-48) was the leading light with the ball – and with back up from Matt Kidd (3-22) and Gribble (2-30) Plymouth were all out for 114.

Plymouth went from 66 for two to 77 for six, prompting Rob Button’s comment that ‘we had a bit of a collapse’.

Button (4-15) then did his best to bowl Plymouth back into the game.

Gribble, who played for Devon in his prime and was Bovey’s 1st XI captain, stroked 50 but when he went the score deteriorated to 96 for five.

Simon Newton smote 25 not out to put the game beyond Plymouth.

North Devon were turned over by 95 runs at Plympton, for whom Matt Gregory had a field day.

Gregory top scored for Plympton with 54 in a total of 188 for nine, putting on 62 for the third wicket with Todd Rossouw. Fergus O’Donnell (3-49) was the pick of North Devon’s bowlers.

Gregory (4-33) and Dan Vince (3-6) combined to dismiss North Devon for 93.

After an early collapse to 32 for four it was only a question of time for North Devon.

Tshepo Legodi starred with bat and ball as Exeter overcame arch rivals Sidmouth by 64 runs.

Legodi (37) backed up skipper Richard Nelsey (50no) in Exeter’s 198 for seven. Charlie Dibble had five for 28 for Sidmouth.

Legodi then took five for 40 and Steve Milne three for 30 as Sidmouth were skittled for 134. Matt Hewer made 46 for the losers.

Cornwood held out for a draw against Tavistock after realising 224 for to win was beyond them.

Nick Goodchild and Barry Milligan booth made half centuries in Tavvy’s total. Matt Petherbridge took four for 71.

Wayne Downham’s four for 49 slowed the Corns to 188 for nine, Luke Richardson unbeaten on 52.

Exmouth’s last pair of Matt Tarry and Nicky Bolt held out for 21 balls to earn a draw at Paignton.

Paignton skipper Tim Ward (54no) shared in stands of 70 with Mark Smith and 59 with Ian Selway to post a total of 256 for nine.

Stuart Cross and Lloyd Loman made identical scores of 55 as Exmouth replied with 188 for nine after Terry Farkins (5-20) got the brake on.
