EXETER are the new leaders of the Premier 2nd XI Division after long-time pacesetters Sidmouth slipped up.Paignton did Exeter a favour by inflicting a five-wiicket defeat on Sidmouth at Queens Park.
Dan Powell (40) and Will Sobczak (41) were the main run getters in Sidmouth’s 208 for eight – Rob Shergold taking four for 42.
Tim Warda (55), Mark Smith (36) and Callum Stanley (39) sped Paignton over the finish line with eight overs to go.
Exeter went two points ahead of Sidmouth even though they could only muster a losing draw against Plympton.
Plympton’s batting was consistent with Richard Skinner (57) and Jamie Pfeiffer (59no) making the greatest contribution to a total of 254 for six.
Will Steward (76) and Sean Langford (43) put on 70 for the third wicket as Exeter reached 216 for eight in reply – Dan Vince taking four for 57.
Bovey Tracey are only five points off the pace thanks to their eight-wicket win over visiting Cornwood.
Scott Mansfield made 58 in Cornwood’s tally of 205 for seven – which Bovey knocked off in just 26 overs with Chris Clayton (94) and James Fulner (69) showing the way home.
North Devon 2nd XI proved too strong for 10-man Tavistock by a hefty margin of 166 runs.
North Devon hared to 292 for seven with McCauley Harrison-Hooton (59) and Dan Pickard (70) making 85 for the second wicket. Ricky Kelly added 62 not out off 37 balls at the end.
Rob Milligan’s 53 was as good as it got for Tavvy, who were bowled out for 116 by Rob Mann (5-20) and Ollie Hunt (3-22).
Exmouth dropped into the bottom two after going down by eight wickets at Plymouth.
Second-wicket pair Stuart Rintoul (75) and Mike Collinge (530 were the only batters to get past 20 as Rob Button (4-50) and Ben Stein (3-23) held Exmouth to 181 for eight.
Callum Whittaker missed out, but Stein (48) and Button (69no) got to 97 for two then Harry Stephenson hit 50 not out to help beat his late grandfather’s club with more than 20 overs to go.
