Date set for Ryan Walker's funeral

THE funeral of Ryan Walker, the Seaton cricketer and coach who died suddenly last week, will take place next Tuesday.

Ryan, who was 24, died following a severe asthma attack. He lived in Seaton with dad Tony, where he also worked as a barman.

His funeral has been arranged for Tuesday, July 22 (2pm) at the parish church of St Mary in the centre of Axminster.

Parking is limited near the church and mourners are advised to use pay-and-display facilities nearby at the hospital or by the Co-op instead.

The church only has seating for around 300 people so mourners who need a seat are advised to arrive early.

After a cremation service at the East Devon Crematorium in Whimple – all welcome - a reception is being held at Axminster CC’s Cloakham Lawn clubrooms.

Ryan had previously played for Axminster and remained a popular figure at the club.

Tributes flooded in all week following Ryan’s death.

Typical of them was this one from fellow coach and Countess Wear player James Bogue.

‘A great bloke who played cricket the way it is intended.’

Steve Pritchard, who played and worked with Ryan, said: ‘If everyone was a little bit more like Ryan, the world would be a really awesome place.’

Ben Morgan, the first team captain at Seaton, said news of Ryan’s death had stunned everyone at the club.

‘He just loved cricket and everything about it – the coaching, the playing and the social side,’ said Morgan.

‘Ryan was the sort of person who got on with everyone. I never heard a bad word said about him.’
