Devon Association |
Dear Fellow Scorers
I am writing to you all firstly to introduce myself as DACOs Scorers’ Representative (apologies for being rather overdue in this) and secondly to announce an exciting new initiative for scorers.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am now in my fourth decade scoring for Torquay CC 1st XI – some 454 league matches without missing one. I qualified as a Scorer in 1992 and as an Umpire in 2008. Over the years, I have scored in many representative matches, the highlight undoubtedly being for South Africa v Minor Counties in 1994. Having attended the necessary courses I also act as DACOs Welfare Officer and I can verify ID for any ECB CRBs. Next year I am going to attend the Level 1 Tutors Course for Scoring.
The Association of Cricket Officials initiative is to encourage experienced scorers to join the organisation by having their scorebooks assessed rather than having to do a formal examination. Andy Scarlett the Regional Scorers Officer is prepared to travel down from Oxfordshire on a Tuesday night in February to do the assessments. For those of you interested please return the proforma to me (more of which will be available at www.devoncricket.com.) The cost will be £30 for non-members but that will include membership for one year which gives you free insurance and CRB check as well as the opportunity to do representative games. Current members can be assessed without further charge to ascertain their grading.
Any scorers who however want to do a training course and ultimately a formal examination, please contact me and depending on demand courses will be run (hopefully a Level 2 course will be run in March at Sandford CC).
In the meantime if anyone wants more information about scoring within Devon, please do not hesitate in contacting me.
Yours faithfully
Nicholas Evanson
