South Dartmoor Girls Make It To National Finals
South Dartmoor U13 girls cricket team have made it to the Chance to Compete National Final where they will play the winner of the north semi-final right after the England v Australia Women’s Ashes Test at Wormsley on Wednesday 14th August. On Tuesday the girls beat St Ivo School from Huntingdon in a best of 3 semi-final. The format is 8 a-side softball and 8 overs per side where everyone except the wicket keeper bowls and batters retire on 20. In the first game South Dartmoor posted 62 after their 8 overs with St Ivo finishing well short. In the second game South Dartmoor again batted first and scored 66. St Ivo got off to a flyer and were easily on course to win until the final 3 overs when South Dartmoor really applied the pressure and ended up winning by 6 runs to book their place in the final and a day out to watch the women’s Ashes test.

The previous week they had made it through the South West round beating Castle School in the final. In all the girls have currently played 11 games, winning 10 and losing only 1. This was all following a very successful indoor season where they narrowly missed out on making it to the Lady Taverners National Finals, losing in the final of the South West regional round. Most of the girls have only been playing cricket for 1 or 2 years and their success is testament to the hard work that Becky Mason and Julie Ingham-Hill have done with them. Becky Mason said after the girls winning this week “it is amazing how well the girls have done. Myself and Julie are so proud of them. Not only are they now playing in a National Final but they also have the opportunity to watch the women’s Ashes test and then have all the England players watching them play after. It will be an unbelievable experience for them”.
