UNDER 17 A DIVISION

STOKE Gabriel were worthy champions on 117 points, just two ahead of challengers Paignton who pursued them all the way.

Paignton completed their programme with victories over Barton and Ipplepen.

Paignton’s Peter Taylor retired after scoring 52 runs. Alex Booth with 33 and Jack Henley (18no) took their team to 140 for five. Barton’s Alex Hunt and Matt Wreford took a couple of wickets apiece.

Replying with an opening partnership of 90, Will Farley (51ret) and Alex Hunt (28no), Barton could not maintain the run rate and fell 18 runs short at the close after losing only two wickets.

Paignton ‘s final match was at Ipplepen who were dismissed for 69 in the 19th over.

Paignton’s attack of Booth, Ben Luck and Connor Ashworth took two wickets each.

Ipplepen opener Jack Lewis scored 38 whilst his colleagues struggled.

Paignton found scoring difficult and only achieved victory in the 19th over after losing five wickets. Joe Abbott’s worthy spell of two for nine in four overs was a feature.

Paignton collected a final 25 points after Dartington & Totnes forfeited their scheduled match.

UNDER 17 B DIVISION

BRIXHAM (160pts) remained  unbeaten to win the division. Their match against close rivals, Chudleigh did not take place as a date could not be agreed. Both clubs took 10 points.

Chudleigh won a close match with Ashburton by four runs. Chudleigh managed 135 for five thanks mainly to Shaun Newland (51ret) and opener Matt Heather (28).

In reply Ashburton’s opener Xander Connabeer 29 and mid-order batsman Dom Durman 55 pressed hard for an unexpected victory but fell five runs short with eight wickets down. 

Chudleigh completed their programme as runners up (157pts).

South Devon ended the season with a heartening win over Torquay to claim 28 points. Thanks to Jonty Parsons (45) and Tom Carne (51) their score of 142 was too much for Torquay’s very young 10 man team, although  Max Brewer 24, Ben Francis and Hastings 22 tried to keep them in the game. Jake Kennard for South Devon took (2-15) and James Hart (2-20).

Earlier Aaron Stevenson for Torquay bowled a remarkable five-wicket maiden in his last over !
