Sidmouth solve parkng problems for Senior Cup final
AN attempt is being made to ease the parking problems faced by spectators visiting the Fort Field at Sidmouth which hosts the Devon Senior Cup Final on Sunday (August 26),writes John Goodwin.

A free shuttle service between the toll-free car parking at East Devon District Council’s Knowle offices, on Station Road, and the ground will be offered from 11.30pm until 12.45pm and for an hour after the match between Sidmouth and Bovey Tracey has concluded.

The ground has no on-site parking provision and nearby, free, on-street spaces are few and far between. The Bedford Lawn, adjacent to the ground, and the municipal Manor Road car park, a 10-minute stroll away, offer paid-for spaces.

A Sidmouth CC spokesman said: “If the weather is fine we are expecting a bumper crowd and we know how hard finding free parking in Sidmouth is. This has prompted us to run a shuttle service between the council office spaces, which are signposted as Weekend Park and Walk.

“While it is only a short walk to the Fort Field from there, we will be laying on a courtesy car service to whisk people to the ground. The spaces are also served by the free Sidmouth Hopper bus service.

“People who park in spaces on Fortfield Terrace next to the ground need to be aware that a 30-minute limit applies and enforcement wardens pay regular visits.”

Two of the county’s top sides should provide a feast of cricket entertainment and to complement it there will be a host of refreshments including Pimms tent, bar, ice cream, barbecue and cream teas. A youngster’s bike will be the top prize in a raffle.
