The Ashes Comes Early for School Girls Competition
On Thursday 16th May the Dartmoor School Sports Partnership held its first Girls 'Ashes' Competition at Shaldon Optimists CC. Over 80 girls and 10 teams took part in an Under 13 and Under 15 competition. Early rain put the competition in doubt, but after starting in the rain within minutes the sun was out and a beautiful blue sky set the scene for the rest of the afternoon.

Early runs and wickets got the tournament off to a great start with some excellent bowling, catching and big hitting a theme throughout. After the group stages the teams making the final knew exactly who they had to beat to lift the Ashes. The Under 13 competition saw South Dartmoor's A team take on their B team. A final full of rivalry and enjoyment saw the A team triumph by 28 runs.

In the Under 15 competition Newton Abbot took on South Dartmoor. An incredibly close final that went right to the end saw Newton Abbot win by 5 runs.

A great day of girls cricket was enjoyed by the girls and teachers alike. A massive thank you goes to Shaldon CC for providing a great venue for the day.
