Devon keeper Allen to coach Stoke youngsters

STOKEINTEIGNHEAD are practicing for the new season with indoor nets taking place at Trinity School, Buckeridge Lane, Teignmouth on Sunday evenings from 6- 7.30pm.

After a successful winter session in the South Devon Indoor League at Paignton Community College when the team finished in third place behind Abbotskerswell and Torquay, attention will turn to the South Devon League this summer.

With promotion back to Division One secured last year Stoke will hope to consolidate their position under the guidance of Mark Russell and Dan Britcliffe.

The club also has a full list of friendly fixtures to fill other Saturdays and Sundays, including entertaining several touring sides for those who wish to play in less competitive matches.

The junior section of the club is moving into a new era as the loss of coaching staff to work and university commitments mean Thursday evenings will be the new practice night from late April (6-8pm).

These will take place under Sandy Allen (pictured) of Nelson Cricket Coaching.

Allen, who played his early cricket with Warwickshire, is the current Exmouth and Devon wicketkeeper.

After a few successful evenings last year with some older members, the club had no hesitation in employing the level three coach to assist in trying to move all the juniors’ forward.

The Villagers will welcome new players – senior and junior – of all abilities.
