SOMERSET’S stars will be returning to Abbotskerswell in September to play the delayed Arul Suppiah T20 benefit match.
Months of preparation went into arrangements for the game, which should have been played last night.
Rain overnight and more drizzle during the day put the Two Mile Oaks ground out of action and an early decision was made to postpone the match.
Eric Cole, the former Abbotskerswell player who is Suppiah’s benefit season manager, said the game will go ahead on Wednesday, September 18 with a mid-afternoon start.
Said Cole: “Although the game was called off there was a social event planned alongside it and that went ahead.
“We moved the marque round to face the pavilion to keep everyone dry.
“Arul came down anyway with some of his tem-mates and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
“There must have been 80-100 people there, including a party of 25 or so brought along by Chris Hart from match sponsors Wollen Michelmore.”
Somerset supporters in Devon will get two chances to see their heroes in action during September as Barton CC are hosting a similar match in Monday, September 16.
