Bovey through to area T20 final
BOVEY Tracey are through to the first area final of the Ivor Dewdney’s Devon T20 competition after clinching their group qualifier by a mile!

Bovey overwhelmed South Devon CC by 82 runs in the play-off game between the two Thomas Trophies Newton T20 pool winners.

Former Devon captain Neil Hancock belted 64 as Bovey Tracey amassed a hefty 155 for two.

Ben Ayres hit 36 and Aren deYoung smashed 18 off five ball as the end. He was particularly severe on South Devon’s Parkistani spinner Hammad Ul-Hussan.

South Devon never got out of the blocks in reply – Pete Bradley’s three wickets for two runs in three overs setting the tone – and the were all out for 73 with four overs to go.

Other than Adrian Hewings with 27 and Paul Hooper (20), it was a night to forget for South Devon as Matt Kidd, Mark Gribble, Ryan Bougourd and deYoung (3-2) shot them out.

Bovey Tracey will play the winners of the Pro-Direct Torbay T20, once the latter competition has been completed.

Bad weather has taken a heavy toll on the home-and-away format employed in Torbay, where two games are outstanding.

Paignton, who have already beaten Barton and Brixham, will clinch the competition if they defeat Brixham in their last game on Friday, July 6. There is just one problem - the area final is due to be played the day before! There is a reserve date of July 11, which may have to be used.

Barton and Brixham, who got halfway through their game last Wednesday evening, have provisionally rearranged their match for Wednesday (July 4).
