DEVON’S Matt Thompson could get an extended run in the Unicorns side after making runs in winning debut against Leicestershire 2nd XI yesterday. The Unicorns posted 251 for nine in the Second Eleven Trophy game at Luton – Thompson (37) playing a supporting role to centurion Brad Wadlan,
Leicestershire were 231 for nine at the end of their 50 overs – Unicorns regular Glenn Querl from North Devon picking up a couple of wickets.
Wickekeeper Thompson took a catch – and although he dropped another the selectors don’t appear to be holding it against him.
Thompson was told before making the long trip home to Torquay from Bedfordshire last night he will be playing against Northants 2nd XI at Wellingborough next Wednesday.
“I felt good and although it is a noticeable step up from Minor Counties cricket it is good to be challenged,” said Thompson.
“The only disappointment was dropping a catch. I was standing back and usually I would expect to take it.”
