EXETER’S promising all-rounder Tom Lammonby made a match-winning contribution to the four-wicket win over Budleigh Salterton in the Servicemaster Devon T20 competition.
Lammonby, who won’t be 15 until next month, is the son of former Exeter skipper Glenn Lammonby and has clearly inherited his dad’s passion for the game.
He plays for Devon two age-groups up, has been 12th man for Somerset 2nd XI this season and went to the Bunbury Festival U25 last year, where county talent scouts are patrolling looking for the next Ronnie Irani, Aftab Habib, Ian Bell or Alistair Cooke, all of whom are festival old boys.
The Exeter School pupil took four wickets for 11 runs in four overs – one of them a rare T20 maiden – as Budleigh were limited to 123 for nine.
Opener Eliot Rice top scored with 55 but only Sam Richardson with 10 reached double figures against some mean bowling from Lammonby, Tom Viljoen and Jon Tipper.
Young Lammonby went in when Exeter were 41 for four in reply with Rob Holman (21) already back in the temporary buildings serving as the pavilion at the County Ground while redevelopment work goes on.
Miles Lenygon went almost immediately, but Lammonby and George Greenway (15) made a 28 run dent in the target.
After Viljoen came and went for a duck to A Jones (2-17), Lammonby (34no) and Will Hardwick (25no) knocked off the rest with nine balls to spare.
Exeter will play either Bradninch of Uplyme in the next round of the competition.
