Tom Allin links up with the 16s
The Under 16s on Tour
Warwickshire's number 87, apparently his own choice despite the Australian connations, Tom Allin gave up one of his rare rest days to join up with the Devon Under 16s at the magnificent Leamington Spa Cricket Club. It was fortunate he came on the first day as the side suffered a post tea melt down on the second day when the first four overs went for twenty-nine - game over. Tom Mitcham had scored 110 on the first day but turned from hero to villan on the second day when he dropped a vital catch. Tom Allin was modesty itself and it was good to show the squad someone from the county who has been invited to join a first class county.
The first day of the two day game with Staffordshire actually got underway despite the efforts of hurrican Bill. They reduced their hosts to 29-3 with Ryan Skinner bowling a really top spell. The days play was called off at 4.00pm. A visit to Boundary Sports filled some time and the players enjoyed a wet Birmingham rush hour! The 60 over game arranged on the Thursday allowed the 16s to finish the season on a high. They scored 287-7 thanks to another ton from Tom Mitcham and useful contributions down the order. Zak Bess, Ryan Skinner, Craig Eaves got amoungst  Staffordshire reducing them to 27-5. An 18 ball fifty from McChristie gave the home side some deserved respectability with the batter last out leg before on 97 out of 166.. Warwickshire and Staffordfshire were outstanding hosts.
Tom Mitcham second successive hundred is a record at under 16 cricket, his average is the fourth best and he with Neil Bettiss are the only players to score two hundreds in the same season at this level. His 8 A* and 3 A's left him with Sam Defriend as the GCSE champions - a reasonable week for the Braunton man.
