Second day rained off at Exmouth
DEVON’S Minor Counties Championship game against Wales failed to start and it could become a one-innings match.

There was no play at all on day one, but hopes were high of starting half an hour early today to make up some of the lost time.

Ten thirty came and went without any action, other than the ground team at Exmouth preparing a new wicket.

Both captains and the umpires inspected the new track just before 1pm, producing much discussion about the state of used bowlers’ footmarks at one end.

Before a decision could be reached the heavens opened again and prospects of play look remote.

If there is no play today – which looks likely – the teams can play a single-innings match tomorrow for 16 points but with no batting or bowling bonuses.

The cut-off time for playing a two-innings game was 4.30, but play was abandoned before then. Weather permitting the teams will have one more go at getting started tomorrow.
