Piper carrying on as Bradninch skipper

BRADNINCH have re-elected Tim Piper to skipper the senior side as they bid to make a swift return to the Premier Division of the Francis Clark Devon League.

Dan Hardy was named as his vice-captain at the club’s recent annual meeting.

Good news for Bradninch is that player of the year, all-rounder Ross Acton, has resisted overtures from elsewhere to spearhead the club’s bid to regain top-flight status.

Despite a record-breaking performance from pro Jackson Thompson, who became the first batsmen to make a Premier Division double century, Bradninch were relegated along with Budleigh Salterton.

Thompson won’t be assisting Bradninch next season though as he has switched loyalties to Cornwood.

Chris Acton was appointed 1st XI team manager. This is a new appointment created to take some of the pressure off the skipper in terms of training and match day organisation.

A similar appointment was made in the 2nd XI which now has Rob Acton, lasts year’s skipper, as team manager with Bryn Jones appointed to the skipper’s role to lead the side in next year’s campaign.

The mid-Devon side will also be fielding Sunday and Midweek XI next season.

Bradninch Cricket Club had a big turnout for their 2013 awards night held at Padbrook Park, Cullompton.

Chairman Derrick Foan introduced the awards and spoke of the disappointment of the club’s relegation from the Francis Clark Devon League Premier Division.

Foan said he was encouraged by the apparent desire of the players to regain their top flight status as soon as possible!

Ross Acton was named the 1st XI Player of the Year with Paul Nott honoured as 1st XI bowler and Dan Hardy picked up the senior side’s fielding award.

Second XI skipper Rob Acton was named his side’s batsman of the year and Luke Wrightson the 2nd XI bowler of the year.

The 2nd XI fielding award went to Connor Carthew.

Fourteen-year-old William Birley, who played in all but one of the club’s 2nd XI A Division matches, was named the young player of the year.

A special presentation was made to chairman Foan for his services to the club and he received the Dick Fogden Memorial Trophy from Jane Fogden.
