Busy bank holiday for Devon Women

DEVON’S women cricketers open their 2014 campaign aganst Staffordshire at Instow on Bank Holiday Monday.
Having had comfortable pre-season victories over North Devon U14 District boys and Gloucestershire women, a final warm up match will take place this Sunday at Torquay against Cornwall.
After a tough season in 2013, in part due to the loss of several key players through injury things seem a little more positive this time around.
The squad welcome back recent England debutant Jodie Dibble as well as fellow left-arm spinner Hazelle Garton.
Both missed the whole season last year and Garton’s 21 wickets in 2012 were particularly difficult to replace.
The squad has also been strengthened with the acquisition of Yorkshire seamer Phoebe Graham, currently studying at Exeter University together with overseas signing Hannah Linton, from Cantebury Magicians in New Zealand.
The winter’s preparation’s have gone well with many of the squad spending time abroad with England squads.
Jodie Dibble (left) and Amara Carr toured Sri Lanka in February with the England Academy whilst Cait O’Keefe, Lydia Harris and Aylish Cranstone joined Carr on the England U19 tour to South Africa.
Many of these players will be seen regularly in the Devon Cricket League on Saturday’s which will be good preparation for what it is hoped will be a stronger showing in 2014.
