v Dorset on 25th May
at Exeter School

Devon u10s began their campaign and first match together by hosting Dorset at Exeter School. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Devon's opening bowlers restricted Dorset throughout the early stages who found it tough in seamer friendly conditions. However it was the spin duo of Rory Medlock and Cameron Ford who took centre stage, taking 6 wickets between them for just 25 runs. Leg spinner Ford took a deserved 4 wickets on debut, all bowled, proving tough for the Dorset middle order to fathom. Dorset ended their innings on 116 with several overs remaining.
Lawrence Walker (25) and Reuben Windley started confidently finding boundaries regularly. After several wickets tumbled in quick succession Jake Pascoe joined Walker at the crease to settle Devon and move towards the target. When Walker departed Pascoe (43*) and Matt Jeacock (16*) took the side to victory with 4 overs to spare. A good start to the season, with the players getting to know each other on and off the pitch.

v Gwent on 1st June
at Monmouth CC

Devon arrived in a damp Monmouth, lucky to be playing after a week of wet weather. After losing the toss, unsurprisingly Gwent inserted Devon to bat on the greenest of pitches. Devon found scoring tough, but Lawrence Walker (31) carried an end superbly to post a respectable score. Rory Medlock came in to strike a bright and breezy 27 as the visiting side reached 120 in the last over.
Gwent set about the total at a pace as the sun came out and conditions improved after tea. A splendid knock of 75* from captain and Wales u11 talent Alex Horton proved too strong for Devon as Gwent eased home for the loss of 5 wickets. Captain Archie Farkins proving the pick of bowling with 2-29.

Devon 120ao (Lawrence Walker 31, Rory Medlock 27, Will Heath 2-0-9-2, Harry Hughes 5-1-12-2)

v Oxfordshire
on 8th June
at Exeter School

A strong Oxfordshire side visited Devon in confident mood after losing only one match in two seasons. Devon, bowling first, bowled well in damp conditions keeping Oxford to 145-8 from 30 overs. Dropped catches proved the day's learning curve as 6 chances went to ground. Cameron Ford and Joe Farmer took 2 wickets each as Oxford accelerated in the closing overs.
After a long rain delay at tea, credit to the Exeter School ground for withstanding the weather, Devon had an innings to forget.... A tremendous opening burst from Oxford's Zac Lion-Cachet proved decisive as the top order struggled to cope with the pace and accuracy. Lion-Cachet finished with 6-10 (all bowled) as player after player misjudged straight deliveries. With confidence shattered Devon were bowled out for 29, a steep learning curve for the boys.

Oxfordshire 145 for 8 (Max Ferreira 29, Alex Orders 22, extras 49, Joe Farmer 5-0-33-2,Cameron Ford 3-0-17-2)
Devon 29ao ( Freddie O'Connell 11, Zac Lion-Cachet 4-1-10-6)

v Hampshire on 15th June
at Exeter University Sportsground

Devon hosted Hampshire for the inaugural county youth fixture to be played at University of Exeter’s Topsham Sports Ground. The excellent facilities provided a backdrop for a game of real quality against strong opposition. Hampshire batted first amassing 183-7, with many players contributing along the way. Captain, Archie Farkins (2-28) and Cameron Ford (2-24) were the pick of a bowling performance that conceded a few too many extras. In response Devon built gradually and were put in a fine position by opener Reuben Windley (32) and Rory Medlock (53). Devon came up agonisingly short despite a bright and breezy 17 from Sammy Broomhead trying to win the game. Needing 6 from the last ball Devon ended up on 181-7. A fine game of cricket and a credit to both sides.

Hampshire 183 for 7 (Dan Watson 37, Jonty Oliver 50, extras 34, Archie Farkins 7-0-28-2, Cameron Ford 7-0-24-2)

v Cornwall on 22nd June
at Exeter School

Despite rain in the air Devon managed to play a full game against Cornwall at Exeter School. Electing to bat first Devon saw a host of early wickets tumble and found themselves 66-7 with plenty of overs remaining. A fine 70 run partnership between Ollie Smith (44) and Joe Farmer (15*) helped Devon to a total of 141-8 that looked above par on a green wicket. In the Cornish reply, wickets fell regularly and were shared equally amongst Eddie Butler (2-8), Matt Jeacock (2-22) and Archie Farkins (2-9). Cornwall rallied to 93 all out meaning the local bragging rights stayed on the Devon side of the Tamar for the 2014 season.

v Isle of Wight U11s on 29th June
at Exeter University Sportsground

The Isle of Wight u11s visited Devon a little weary eyed after a 5.30 alarm call before boarding the ferry. The visitors won the toss and decided to blow off the cobwebs in the field. Eddie Butler (22) and Jake Pascoe (45), both under 9s and playing a year early, dominated the opening exchanges. A middle order flurry of wickets slowed proceedings until skipper Archie Farkins (27) helped Devon to a strong total of 192-7. A fine spell of bowling during the Isle of Wight response from pace duo Joe Farmer (3-15) and Farkins (2-6) dented the visitors hopes. However contributions down the order helped them to a respectable 101 ao to make the long trip worthwhile.

Devon 192 for 7 (Jake Pascoe 45, Archie Farkins 27, extras 54, Eddie Butler 22, Devon Pollard 5-0-22-2,
